Friends of Kolkata also currently supports 10 boys under education scholarships. These scholarships came about when the boys left a struggling home for destitute children that could no longer provide adequate support, the boys were unable to receive or afford any education. The boys household income per month averages between 20 – 50 dollars.
FoK in consultation with ISW paid for a Social worker to look into the boys circumstances. After talks with ISW it was decided that a new fund would be set-up bringing the boys into the FoK scholarship program. The program covers various costs relating to their education, health and medical check-ups, school fees, books and uniforms. Being a part of the scholarship program has enabled them to continue their studying.
Fundraising efforts in Australia, including a Bollywood Extravaganza night in September 2010, and the support of ISW scholarships have been provided for the educational and health needs of the boys. The program has had a positive impact on their lives and the boys have been able to continue with their studies.
The program costs $5000 per year to pay for the boys’ education, books, some clothes, transport, a small occasional allowance for food and a social worker to oversee everything. We are currently searching for 10 sponsors to commit $45/month to help these boys fulfil their potential. It would be amazing if you were one of them. For more information get in touch with us here.
If you would like to commit to a smaller amount or simply make a one off donation, that would also be incredibly helpful for these boys. You can donate here - DONATE TODAY.
